What is Equine Podiatry?
Equine podiatry is the study and management of the equine foot based on its anatomy and function. My aim as an EP is to develop your equines hooves and achieve an optimum level of health and usability.
Equine Podiatry is a holistic approach to barefoot hoof care and takes into consideration all aspects of a horse’s management, aiming to improve its overall health which in turn influences the health of the hooves. Using a science-based approach, there is no need to implement traditional metal shoes.
As a qualified equine podiatrist, I have a sound knowledge of equine anatomy and how to influence good hoof development by providing a balanced and non-invasive trim and modifying environmental factors. I will consider components which affect hoof health; nutrition, environment, workload, muscular-skeletal imbalances, underlying health issues etc, and working closely with the owner, formulate a tailor-made hoof care programme.
The recommendations I make will take into consideration what is achievable for your horse, yourself and your situation and we will work as a team to achieve a shared goal.
